Kelly Craft, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, was confirmed by the Senate on July 31 to serve as the new permanent representative to the United Nations. She succeeds Nikki Haley in the role.

During her time as ambassador to Canada, Craft strengthened this crucial relationship by playing a leading role in trade negotiations resulting in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, bolstering the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, and advancing key administration objectives related to China, Venezuela and Russia.

A native of Glasgow, Kentucky, Craft previously ran a marketing and advisory business in her home state and was deeply involved in philanthropy. She served as an alternate delegate to the U.N. General Assembly in 2007.

Since Haley’s departure in December, the post has been filled by her deputy, Jonathan R. Cohen.

“Kelly has done an outstanding job representing our nation, and I have no doubt that, under her leadership, our country will be represented at the highest level,” President Trump said when he nominated Craft in February.
